Description

My roleplay character for :icona-gents: :D

Full name: Yurie Matsuyama-Atwood
(Pronounced "Yuu-ree"; Actually supposed to be "Yuu-ree-eh" in Japanese, but she didn't even know that til later on...so "Yuu-ree" it is. ^^)

Age: 20 Gender: Female Class: Spy

:star: Ability :star:
Chlorokinesis - The ability to mentally manipulate plants. This means she can instantly speed up their growth, control how tall they grow and how many leaves/branches they sprout, their thickness, their roots, etc. She can also communicate with them to see their "memories", or basically scenes/events that the plant witnessed. This can be done simply by being in contact with the plant; for example, touching its leaf or petal. She is unable to manipulate dead plants (the roots of the plant are completely destroyed).

:star: Weapon :star:
Technically none; she can use her ability to defend herself and others. However, she is also adept with martial arts, namely Aikido and Jujutsu - aims for pressure points and using the opponent's movements against them, rather than brute force.

:star: Bio :star:
Born from a one-night stand between an extremely wealthy Japanese entrepreneur and a beautiful half-Japanese actress, Yurie was immediately put into the care of her grandparents (her mother's side) who lived in a tiny rural community of Ontario, Canada. She learned both Japanese and English, as her grandfather was Canadian and her grandmother Japanese. Growing up in the small, almost village-like town, Yurie had difficulty making friends due to the fact that her outer appearance was vastly different from all the other children in town with her straight black hair and undeniably Asian features. She never heard about her father, not even his name, because her grandparents did not have a clue either; after putting Yurie into their care, her mother cut off all contact with them.

Therefore, Yurie sought company with nature; As a child, she always felt strangely at peace around plants, but she could not pinpoint the exact feeling she got from them yet – all she knew was that she liked being with plants, and plants seemed to “like” being with her, for they “told” her many things. This is how she would spend hours of her time daily, communicating with various plants and being fascinated by the random sequences of events they would show her; around people, she spoke very little and acted quite reserved and withdrawn. At her elementary school, she became a popular target for bullying, even though she would barely show any reaction to their antics. One day, a mean prank went too far when some kids in her class pushed her into a lake during a school trip, thinking the water was shallow, but Yurie did not know how to swim. In a flash of panic, she mentally and verbally called out for help – and help arrived, in the form of nearby tree branches and lakeside reeds of grass wrapping themselves around her waist and arms, pulling her out of the water. Although she was safe, there was, as expected, a huge commotion throughout the town, and she was alienated more than ever. Soon afterwards, coincidentally, a letter addressed to her arrived from Japan - it was apparently from her father, and he informed her of two things: 1. Her mother had passed away in a car accident, and 2. He would like Yurie to come live in Japan. Overwhelmed and troubled by what had occurred, her grandparents agreed to send her off temporarily; they did not inform him of her strange ability, however, in worry that he would change his mind. Though uneasy about the sudden situation, Yurie did not say anything, and so she departed from her home in Canada.

Upon arriving in Japan, the 10 year old Yurie saw her father for the first time - their reunion, however, wasn't quite what she expected. Saying he was "frequently away on business trips" and that "this would be better" for her, he merely dropped her off in an isolated rural village with his elder brother. Although she was devastated by the flow of events, it turned out her uncle was very kind; as the owner of a dojo, he taught her the ways of "flowing as one with nature" with martial arts such as aikido and jujutsu in an attempt to distract her from depressing thoughts. On her spare time, she would exercise her ability for fun; though she no longer was an outcast, she was still somewhat shy around strangers. As she grew up, her father contacted every once in a while, but his motivations were never clear.
Meanwhile, after the incident in Canada, Yurie understood and tried her best to hide her ability; however, sometimes she couldn't help but use it - it proved to be useful for a variety things, such as hiding or gathering info. The fateful day arrived when, one night, Yurie came home only to see her uncle bleeding and collapsed on the floor, a knife wound in his gut. Remaining calm, she called for help and then checked the household potted plants for some clues on what happened. In the plant's sequence of events transmitted to her mind, a figure dressed in a black suit was having tea with her uncle; soundless words came out of his mouth, and then all of a sudden, her uncle stood up in what seemed to be defiant rage. There was a brief argument, it seemed – and then the man in the suit drew out a small dagger and stabbed him. Her uncle then crumpled to the ground, twitching, and the man ran off, but she could clearly recognize his face in the image; it was none other than her father. Dashing out of the house, she mentally called out to all the plants in the vicinity; normally she would have to touch them, but her will was so strong at that point that images and scenes instantly flowed into her mind. She was sure that her father had left the village as quickly as possible, but it was unclear as to where his destination was.

Not knowing what to do, she goes to the next town's hospital where her uncle had been moved to in order to be treated properly; there she encounters a mysterious man who introduces himself to be part of a strange organization - called AGENTS - and he'd been observing her from the shadows for a while to gauge her powers. Thinking that she may be able to find clues about her father's whereabouts and motivations if she works as a spy, she agrees to become an AGENT - and so her adventures begin...

:star: Personality :star:
Since she was a small child, Yurie has naturally been calmer and more patient than most. A gentle girl by nature, she is pleasant and soothing to be around; and since she has always spent time secluded in nature, along with her ability, she is extremely observant and aware of the environment around her. Due to her past, however, she is still a tad shy around strangers and takes a while to open up, but she generally tries to treat them with respect and politeness. Despite her longtime wish to someday make good friends, she still prefers the tranquility of nature out of habit, and so she has a tendency to disappear somewhere during the day. If you manage to find her, she’ll most likely be meditating in the trees within a nearby forest, or tending to some flowers.

Ahaha, I had too much fun writing the bio. ^^; Hopefully it's not too long, and if it is, I suppose I could compress it a little, just let me know. :)
